Well, my recent
sojourn in the Land of the Mouse has recharged my soul, and stirred up my
creative juices. Thus, I present a brand-new feature here at The Pit: A
Variation On A Theme. Basically, a movie binge. A series of reviews of movies
that are, in some way, related. In this case, I have elected to take on the
Dark Empire itself: Disney.
Love it or hate it, Disney has been the
dominant voice in family-oriented film and television programming for the last
fifty years. Whether under the perfectionist artistic hand of Uncle Walt, or
the savvy iron fist of Michael Eisner, the Disney Company has successfully
maintained an intellectual empire that includes animated and live-action
feature films, television networks, theme parks, and of course merchandising.
The strength and power of Disney cannot be denied, even if the quality of its
products is debatable.
So here, in my tiny corner of the World Wide
Web, I launch a debate of my own. In this Variation, it is my intention to
delve into both my personal library of film and other public sources, to come up
with a good cross section of style, genre, and era, and do a little commentary
and analysis.
So, without further ado, I present: the films.
The Absent-Minded Professor
(1961)
The EmperorÕs New Groove (2000)
Pirates of the Caribbean: The
Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
(PS: Dear Disney people: Please donÕt sue me.
IÕm just a humble demon with a website.)
